Huawei P9 Philippines Price is Php 23,990, Specs, Release Date, Actual Unit Photos, 20% Off Launch Promo Details
Huawei P9 - the Chinese electronics giant's 2016 flagship smartphone - has just become my absolute favorite handset from the company for several reasons. Heck, I'm now thinking about upgrading to it from my lovely Huawei P7.
You see, aside from flaunting a downright beautiful design and being a powerhouse model in its own right, Huawei P9 - with its Leica approved dual-optics main shooter - is also the best cameraphone that the company has churned out so far.
"If you think your smartphone has the best camera, think again. We are confident that the Huawei P9 [...] will elevate your standard in phone photography. It is the phone that will redefine creativity and social sharing right at your fingertips. At the core of the P9 is the pursuit of relentless creativity and self-expression," shared Mr. Jose Vega, Director for Consumer Business Group of Huawei Philippines.
Ms. Corinne Risos-Bacani - Senior Marketing Manager for CBG of Huawei Philippines - added, "The arrival of the Huawei P9 line in the Philippines signifies a shift in the standard of phone photography. Now, the game has changed and we are confident to stand out from the norm. Much like how a Leica photograph stands out from others, P9 users set themselves apart from other smartphone users with the perfect tool for creativity and self-expression."
Before I give you more details about Huawei P9's stellar main camera, let's talk about the handset's design and technical specifications.
As you can see in these images, Huawei's top-of-the-line smartphone this year sports an anodized aluminum unibody frame - replete with diamond-cut, chamfered edges and complemented by a 2.5D curved glass face - that's quite simply a joy to hold and behold. Thanks to the understated elegance of its minimalist design, this model can certainly stand shoulder to shoulder with its best-looking competitors and not feel a bit shy.
On its face, we'll see the near bezel-less 5.2-inch Full HD IPS NEO display panel that looks brilliant and vibrant across various viewing angles.
Located above the screen just beside the earpiece, the 8 MegaPixel front cam with f/2.4 aperture and Huawei's own Beauty Mode delivers great-looking selfies that are instantly ready for sharing on social networking sites.
At its heart, the more affordable Philippine version of Huawei P9 runs its Emotion-UI-4.1-skinned Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system with its 64-bit Octa Core HiSilicon Kirin 955 chipset that incorporates four 2.5 GHz ARM Cortex-A72 CPUs, four 1.8 GHz ARM Cortex-A53 cores, and a Mali-T880 MP4 GPU, has 3GB of RAM for efficient multitasking, and comes with 32GB of storage that's expandable via the hybrid secondary nanoSIM slot.
Powered by a non-removable 3,000 mAh Li-Ion battery pack, Huawei P9 has Dual DIM Dual Standby capability, features a Fingerprint Scanner for quickly unlocking the device as well as logging into supporting apps, has a reversible USB Type C port for faster data syncing and charging, and supports 4G LTE Cat6 mobile connectivity.
As I've noted previously, the key feature of the 2016 flagship is its Dual Optics Camera Module that had been co-developed by imaging industry legend, Leica.
Like what I've explained in another TP post, P9 has two camera sensors at the back that both have 12 MegaPixel resolution. They also share the same size of 27mm and have similar f/2.2 aperture.
Now, here's how they are different: One takes shots in RGB or in color while the other snaps photos in monochrome or greyscale/black-and-white. This set-up makes it possible for the module to deliver greater detail and more appealing contrast in every shot. Since it doesn't have to worry about the color of light that's coming in, the monochrome sensor captures more light and finer elements of the subject in each resulting image. According to the company, this allows P9's camera to capture up to a whopping 270% more light and details compared to Apple iPhone 6s' shooter. Amazing, eh?
The company adds, "[This release's] best-in-class camera lens, image sensors, and proprietary image processing chipsets result in stunning images rarely achieved in smartphones."
Having played with Huawei P9 during its media launch held at The City of Dreams in Paranaque City last June 2, 2016, I would have to agree with the brand's claim. This model certainly one of the leading devices to beat in the field of mobile imaging this year.
For those who are eyeing this amazing flagship, Huawei P9 will become officially available in the Philippines starting on June 15, 2016 with price tag of Php 23,990 -- but Huawei Philippines will be holding a special 20% discount promo on June 11, 2016 at its SM Mall of Asia Concept Store (bringing the price of the device down to around Php 19,200). Simply swap an old camera you're no longer using (it's OK if it's busted) to avail of this generous offer. Doors will open at 11AM on that day but I would suggest you come really early as only 200 units will be sold as part of the promo.
