OPPO R9s Red Chinese New Year Limited Edition Specs, Actual Unit Photos, Key Features
Last Friday, I graced OPPO Philippines' invitation to fly to Cebu and experience Sinulog 2017 with our friends from the company as well as our buds from the tech blogging scene and the local media.
After landing, it didn't take long for us to realize that OPPO is actually one of the major brand partners for the festivities. The company's logo and the smartphone name 'OPPO F1s' were everywhere.
Although it was released way back in August 2016, OPPO F1s remains to be at the center of the Chinese handset company's marketing efforts here in the Philippines. And why not? Many Pinoy consumers remain interested in the device.
However, on Saturday, Ms. Jane Wan – the Brand Marketing Head of OPPO PH who also joined us in Cebu – posted photos of a curious new smartphone model from the company, the OPPO R9s Chinese New Year Limited Edition, on her Facebook account.
Seeing the shots, tech bloggers and members of the media immediately talked to Team OPPO and asked if they could take more photos of the said device.
Thankfully, I was one of those who were handed a unit to play with.
So for the big OPPO fans who are already very interested in this model, here are my exclusive photos of OPPO R9s Red Chinese New Year Limited Edition.
Handsets under the OPPO R Series are crafted for discerning mobile consumers who are looking for a well-designed, slim daily driver that also has above average technical specifications and good low light imaging capabilities for a phone in its price bracket.
The OPPO R9s merely continues this laudable tradition.
Flaunting a thin and sleek unibody aluminum shell and a 2.5D Curved Gorilla Glass 5 face – protecting the brilliant 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display panel, the OPPO R9s is a true stunner and head-turner --- even for those who has the iPhone 7 as the benchmark in terms of mobile device good looks.
This description is accurate for the standard version but the OPPO R9s Chinese New Year Limited Edition takes it to a higher level as it comes in this more visually impactful sports-car Red hue, which – I believe – symbolizes good luck and great fortune.
Personally, my favorite feature of OPPO R9s is its 16 MegaPixels phase detection autofocus rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, , 1/2.8" sensor size, and 1.12µm pixel size that’s easily one of the best shooters in this price bracket in terms of low light performance.
The main shooter is complemented by the 16 MegaPixels f/2.0 selfie cam in front that delivers great-looking self-portraits, enough to reinforce OPPO’s Selfie Expert moniker. OPPO's beautification mode instantly evens out your skin-tone and highlights your fine features to give you selfies that you'll be proud to share on Facebook and Instagram.
Under the hood, OPPO R9s runs its ColorOS-flavored Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system with a 64-Bit Octa Core 2.0 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor incorporating Adreno 506 graphics, has 4GB of RAM for smooth multitasking, and comes with 64GB of internal storage that can easily be augmented using the secondary hybrid nanoSIM slot that supports microSD card memory expansion.
As for its release and availability, it appears that this limited edition model will be a China-only release -- hitting4 store shelves there within the next few days. Our friends from OPPO didn't really tells us how much it would go for upon launch in that territory.
Likewise, we didn't get any confirmation on the regular OPPO R9s' availability in the Philippines. Although, if you ask me, it's a bit suspect that our friends from the company brought these units on our trip. It's almost as if they wanted to create buzz around the model. But that's just me. Anyway, if they'd eventually decide to bring it here, I hope they'd price it below Php 20,000 to make it really competitive.
