Cherry Mobile Flare S6 Price is Php 3,999, Here Are Its Specs and Actual Photos
Donning a price tag of only Php 3,999, Cherry Mobile Flare S6 is the most affordable of the three new handsets that the Pinoy tech giant introduced at the event held last Thursday - October 12, 2017 - at their headquarters in Manila.
That doesn't mean, though, that this model does not have its own charms or merits.
Sure, it lacks a Quad Camera set-up or a really powerful front-cam for ultra-high-resolution selfies but I think budget-conscious consumers who are planning to finally upgrade from their feature-phones to a legit Android smartphone will find good reasons to go with this model.
From design to imaging capabilities, this handset will surely delight users who will be jumping on the Android bandwagon for the first time.
The follow-up to last year's best-selling Flare S5, the S6 sports a revamped design language that's reminiscent of what you'll find in popular smartphones by Chinese brands this year.
The back plate has rounded sides and corners as well as discreet antenna lines on either poles -- similar to but not exactly like what you'll find on the iPhone 7. It is crafted from polycarbonate but has enough metallic accents to make it look rather sophisticated.
According to Mr. Lonson Alejandrino, the true highlight of this model would have to be its imaging capabilities, which allows the user to capture more details in various lighting conditions.
The phone's main camera is a 13 MegaPixel autofocus shooter with LED flash and backside illuminated sensor for enhanced low light performance.
For snapping selfies, there's another 13 MegaPixel camera in front above the 5.2-inch HD IPS display. This one comes with Soft LED flash that provides illumination when taking self-portraits in settings where there's little to no ambient light.
The capabilities of both optics are brought to life by Flare S6's all-new camera application, which not includes a more intuitive photo and video capture mode, built-in Beauty Mode, as well as FaceCute, which adds fun stickers to selfies.
This re-imagined camera app is an essential part of Cherry OS, which is the company's very own interface or experience for the Android operating system.
Cherry Mobile spent an entire year developing this UI and - based on their research - adding features that Filipinos will find useful including an app folder for cloning social media applications and a password-protected separate interface for keeping private content.
The Flare S6's Cherry OS sits on top of Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, which the handset runs using a 1.3GHz Quad Core MediaTek MT6737 processor. This chipset is complemented by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage that can easily be augmented using the hybrid secondary nanoSIM slot that supports memory card expansion.
Overall, this set of internal hardware is clearly not the best that Cherry Mobile has to offer but for a phone that costs just Php 3,999, it's hard to complain about it.
While you can't expect to get flagship-level, ultra-smooth heavy gaming performance from this phone, I think, with its innards, Flare S6 should be able to deliver a decent social media, web-browsing, movie-viewing and light gaming experience.
Cherry Mobile Flare S6 will be available at all Cherry Mobile Concept Stores, kiosks, and authorized retail channels starting on October 22, 2017. The hero handset will be out in three colors, namely, Black, Silver, and Gold.
