2018 Sony Xperia XA2 vs XA2 Ultra vs Xperia L2 Price, Specs, and Features Comparison
At CES 2018 - held in January in Las Vegas, Nevada USA, Japanese tech giant Sony unveiled three handsome midrange smartphones that are all slated for release within the first quarter of this year.
Since the Philippines remains to be a key market for Sony Xperia handsets, I thought of doing this blog post, which compares the three new smartphone models against each other for all Pinoys who are big fans of this respected brand.
Sony Xperia XA2 is follow-up to the successful Sony Xperia XA1 from 2017.
This rather budget-friendly handset features a pixel-dense 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display with 16:9 aspect ratio and nearly non-existent side bezels, an 8 MegaPixel front-facing camera for selfies that benefits from Sony's Soft Skin beautification software, Dual SIM capability, 4G LTE support. and a non-removable 3,300 mAh Li-Ion battery pack that's charged using the USB Type C port.
At the back, this smartphone features a powerful 23 MegaPixel camera that's crafted to perform well even in low light conditions -- thanks to its wide f/2.0 aperture. Below the camera module there's a circular fingerprint scanner that adds a veritable layer of security and privacy for the user.
Underneath its real metal shell, Sony Xperia XA2 runs its Xperia UI skinned Android 8.0 Oreo operating system with a powerful and very energy efficient Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor that incorporates an Adreno 530 GPU, has 3GB of RAM, and comes with 32GB of expandable storage.
Sony Xperia XA2 has a global suggested retail price of 350 Euros or around Php 22,000.
Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra, on the other hand, is a step-up from the XA1 Ultra of 2016. This is my favorite model of the trio.
As its name suggests, it's a larger version of the Xperia XA2 - having a 6-inch Full HD IPS display and bigger 3,580 mAh battery pack - but really, it's so much more than that.
Although this one is also powered by a Snapdragon 630 processor, it nonetheless has more RAM at 4GB and likewise has a larger 64GB onboard storage.
Like XA2, XA2 Ultra has the same 23 MegaPixel PDAF f/2.0 rear camera but what makes this bigger handset special is that it has a Dual Front Facing Camera Module.
For snapping selfies, XA2 Ultra has main 16 MP f/2.0 shooter with 23mm focal length. This cam can also take steady Full HD videos at 30fps - thanks to Optical Image Stabilization, which should be great for vloggers.
The secondary front camera is an 8 MegaPixel f/2.4 snapper with 120 Degrees wide-angle lens that's ideal for taking groufies or wefies.
This phablet dons an international SRP of 450 Euros or roughly Php 28,500.
Finally, there's the Sony Xperia L2, which is the most affordable model of the bunch. As expected, it also has the most modest set of technical specifications of the three.
L2 has a 5.5-inch HD IPS display panel, 13 MegaPixel f/2.0 rear camera, 8 MP f/2.4 selfie cam in front, Full HD video recorder, 4G LTE support, Dual SIM capability, and a 3,300 mAh Li-Ion battery pack.
Inside, it runs its Xperia-UI-customized Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system with an ARM Cortex A53 and Mali-T720 based Quad Core Mediatek MT6737T processor, has 3GB of RAM, and comes with 32GB of internal storage.
This one has a price tag of 250 Euros, which is more or less Php 15,800.
To make it easier for us to compare the specs and features of these three midrange early 2018 Sony Xperia smartphones, I made this table:
So there you have it! Let me know your thoughts about Sony Xperia XA2, Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra, and Sony Xperia L2. What can you say about their technical specifications and price tags? Which one of the three are you most likely to get?

The scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 4 touchscreen of Xperia XA2 gently curve on the sides to match the slightly concave shell, giving a rounded feel when you hold the phone.
