Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus Philippines Price is PHP 9,990 : Full Specs, Actual Unit Photos
The all-new Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus (which is known as Xiaomi Redmi 5 Note in other territories) is the more expensive and more powerful of the two Android smartphones that the Disruptive Chinese Tech Giant formally unveiled here in the Philippines via an exclusive media event held at Makati Shangri-La Hotel on Tuesday, March 13, 2018.
With an official price tag of Php 9,990, this model is clearly positioned to compete with very popular midrange Android smartphones that are currently dominating the market.
But the question is: Its relatively wallet-friendly SRP aside, does the Redmi 5 Plus have what it takes to give its main competitors a big run for the money?
For me, the answer is yes.
In fact, I particularly like five things about this model.
First, I'm attracted to its sleek design and solid build. The unbody shell is crafted from anodized aluminum and as you can see it these photos, it simply looks great regardless of the angle. Holding the device, you will feel a reassuring heft and laudable sturdiness.
Second, I love that it has a 5.99-inch Full HD+ IPS display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Most other smartphones by other international players that are in this price category only have an HD screen so this is a real treat. Needless to say, watching movies or viewing images will be a lot better on a 1080p display than on those with lower resolution.
Third, and perhaps this is the most important, Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus has great internal hardware. The version that's available here runs its MIUI-skinned Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS with a 14nm Octa Core ARM Cortex A53 and Adreno 506 based Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor that's both more than capable and very energy-efficient. This chipset is complemented by 4GB of RAM, which is generous given the price of the device, and 64GB of onboard storage expandable through the hybrid secondary nanoSIM slot.
If you're a mobile gamer, trust that his model can handle the most specs-intensive games you can download from Google Play Store. It won't be as smooth, of course, as on a handset powered by Snapdragon 845 but the experience you'll get should be enjoyable.
Forth, the handset's 12 MegaPixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus and f/2.2 Aperture, captures large 1.25 μm sized pixels to deliver brilliant and clear photos even when there's little ambient light.
While the resolution of the front cam could have been higher than 5MP, it nonetheless comes with Soft LED flash to ensure clear self-portraits even when snapped in low light conditions.
And finally, I'm sure all Mi fans would appreciate the fact that this device is powered by a sizable 4,000 mAh Li-Po battery, which should deliver long uptime with regular use. Again, this pack is notably bigger than what you'll get on many competing smartphones.
Apart from these five, another highlight of this release is its back-mounted Fingerprint Scanner, which adds a veritable layer of privacy and security for the user.
So am I recommending Xiaomi Redmi 5?
Although I've yet to play with this model more extensively, in the short amount of time that I tested it, I was quite impressed with how much value the device gives to the user given its price tag.
I mean, sure - like you - I also wish that the phone had a USB Type C port, a higher resolution front-cam, and a secondary camera at the back for telephoto or wide-angle shots. But I guess we'll find all of those in a more expensive Xiaomi handset.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus will be available at Xiaomi Store Trinoma Ayala Mall and Xiaomi Store SM MegaMall starting on March 17, 2018. This Android smartphone will be out in four colors, namely, Blue, Gold, Black, and Rose Gold.
