Smart Communications Hits 5G Speeds in TechnoLab Tests
On Wednesday - June 6, 2018, PLDT's wireless arm Smart Communications and its technology partner Huawei finally achieved 5G mobile internet speeds breaching a whopping 6.5 Gbps in a test held in the newly installed 5G Technolab,
The Smart 5G Technolab is a PLDT facility that focuses on the research and development, standardization, and testing of 5G or fifth-generation wireless broadband technologies and services.
With its capability to deliver ultra high speed broadband coupled with low latency, 5G opens up exciting possibilities for Internet of Things (IoT) applications for Filipinos, particularly in healthcare and smart cities.
5G, which is expected to be offered by many leading wireless networks around the world later in 2018, delivers mobile speeds that are up to 1,000 times faster than its predecessor 4G LTE. Here in the Philippines, 4G speeds are at 40 Mbps so I believe the target speeds for 5G will be more or less 4Gbps.
