Dual SIM iPhone X Plus and iPhone 9, A Possibility
2018 has proven to be a year of big changes for some key players in the mobile industry.
Earlier this year, Huawei finally became the second biggest smartphone seller worldwide, beating Apple for the first time since International Data Corporation started doing their quarterly mobile device tracker.
On the other hand, Xiaomi was named the 'number one handset brand in India', after it surpassed Samsung in terms of total units sold in that territory.
And finally, in Q3 2018, OPPO and Vivo decided to compete in the flagship level category in developing markets once again after years of focusing in the midrange echelon.
Well, if we were to believe the latest "insider information" shared by reliable Apple device 'leaker' Ming-Chi Kuo, then we can say that the Cupertino company is just about ready to join the party by implementing "big changes" to their best selling product, the iPhone.
According to him, Apple is slated to release a trio of iPhone models this year -- and two of which could come with a useful feature that we have never seen on their predecessors.
As I've shared previously, based on speculations and leaks from various sources, these are the three iPhone versions that could very well be launched before the 2018 ends:
Apple iPhone Xs - Looks exactly like the iPhone X from 2017 but has more powerful processor, more RAM, and enhanced imaging capabilities via its Dual Rear Camera module.
Apple iPhone X Plus - Has a larger 6.5-inch AMOLED display and bigger battery pack but has the same internal hardware and imaging features as the iPhone Xs
Apple iPhone Lite or Apple iPhone 9 - The budget iPhone this year, which has a larger albeit lower resolution display, less RAM, and smaller battery pack compared to its siblings. Oh, it also only has a Single Rear Camera module unlike iPhone Xs and X Plus that has two optics are the back.
So what's the rumored never-before-seen feature that these new models could have?
Dual SIM, Dual Standby Capability!
Yup! Looking at the table above - which is based on details disclosed by Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone X Plus and iPhone 9 are shown having two SIM card slots -- unlike the iPhone Xs, which - oddly enough - is believed to still have just one SIM slot.
If this is true, I think it makes perfect sense -- especially now when Apple is trying to grow bigger in markets like India or China where so many consumers expect their smartphones to be able to work with multiple networks at the same time. On top of that, some of iPhone's biggest rivals like the Galaxy S or Note Series have long had Dual SIM capability.
I believe this will also be a welcome change here in the Philippines since many mobile users here also keep at least two SIM cards.
