Kirin 980 Beats Snapdragon 845 in Antutu Benchmark Score
There are several things that are very special about the all-new HiSilicon Kirin 980 flagship-level chipset that Huawei officially introduced at IFA 2018 yesterday, August 31, 2018.
Aside from promising consumers 75% improved performance and 58% enhanced energy efficiency compared to its predecessor - the Kirin 970, the powerful Kirin 980 represents many firsts in the mobile tech industry, including the following:
World's First 7nm System on Chip (SoC)
First-Ever ARM Cortex A76 based Processor
World's First Dual Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI
First-Ever SoC to have Mali-G76 GPU
World's First 1.4Gbps Cat.21 Modem
First-Ever Processor supporting 2133 MHz LPDDR4X
All of these characteristics combine to make HiSilicon Kirin 980 practically the Most Powerful and Most Intelligent Processor for smartphones currently.
As of writing, three smartphone models - Huawei Mate 20, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, and Honor Magic 2 - have been confirmed to ship with the Kirin 980 as their power core.
In fact, the Antutu Benchmark Test Score of Huawei Mate 20 has been leaked online and the unbelievable total mark proves that its processor is truly worthy of the title mentioned above.
The 356,918 Antutu Benchmark Score of the Kirin 980 powered Huawei Mate 20 easily beats the 264,044 mark of Samsung Galaxy S9+ with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 inside it.
Given that the difference in the amount of RAM and ROM of both models shouldn't be all that significant, I believe we can attribute the big score difference to the sheer power of the new Kirin 980 SoC. Incredible, right?
I own a Huawei Mate 10 that's powered by Kirin 970 and I'm actually very satisfied with its performance. Still, I am so excited to see how Kirin 980 can further improve consumers' mobile experience especially when playing resource-intensive games or recording 4K videos.
Anyway, Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro will both be launched globally through an exclusive media event to be held in London on October 16, 2018.
