Samsung Galaxy J6+ Philippines Price is PHP 10,990, Full Specs, Key Features

Korean Giant Samsung Mobile has just made a couple of new entry-level Galaxy smartphones available here in the Philippines -- and this model is the more expensive of the two.

Samsung Galaxy J6+ maybe a bit under-powered - in terms of internal hardware - compared to competing Pinoy and Chinese handsets in its price bracket but I think it certainly has its own charms.

For one, its 6-inch FullHD+ IPS display does not have that polarizing notch, which has become a novelty feature on today's smartphones.

I know some people who hate the notch to the core -- and I think they'll definitely give this model two thumbs up when they see it.

Looking at the phone's press photos, I'd say its design identity is also quite attractive. For me, Galaxy J6+'s high-gloss 2.5D glass sandwich look with rounded sides and corners clearly exudes an air of elegance and sophistication.

Perhaps the most unique physical characteristic of this Galaxy release compared to its predecessors is that it has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which is now more easily accessible using the thumb if you're right-handed or your pointer finger if you're left-handed. In comparison, the fingerprint sensor of previous J-Series models is located either below the display, integrated with the home button or at the back, below the camera.

According to Samsung, one of the highlights of this model is its Dual Rear Camera module made up of a 13 MegaPixel f/1.9 Primary Camera plus 5MP f/2.2 Secondary shooter that captures depth information. This duo enables Live Focus mode which adds shallow depth of field effect, subtle background blur, or Bokeh to portrait or product shots.

For Selfie Lovers, this model has an 8 MegaPixel f/1.9 front-facing camera, which is powered by Samsung's own Beauty Mode that instantly evens out the skintone of the user in self-portraits. Also, this snapper comes with Soft LED flash, which is very useful when taking selfies in setting with little ambient light like in bars, clubs, or even outdoors at night.

Under the hood, Samsung Galaxy J6+ runs its heavily customized Android 8.1 Oreo operating system with a modestly powered 1.4 GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor, has 3GB of RAM for multitasking, and comes with 32GB of storage that can be expanded using the phone's microSD card slot.

I wouldn't call this model a "powerhouse" smartphone but it's more than good enough for using social media apps, playing light 3D games, listening to music, watching vlogs on Youtube, and reading blogs on your favorite mobile web browser. Based on my experience with previous J-Series models, I think Galaxy J6+ can be a decent first legit cameraphone for young mobile photography enthusiasts; I believe that's the department where this handset can potentially excel.

As for battery life, users can expect the non-removable 3,300 mAh Li-Ion battery pack to deliver up to 16 hours of uptime with mobile data turn on coming from a full charge. If you're traveling abroad and you're just going to use the phone for watching movies in the plane, it can stay on for more or less 15 hours coming from 100% battery.

The handset is out in three classy colors, namely, Red, Black, and Gray -- and you can get the model for only PHP 10,990, which - I think - is fair enough given its key features and main selling points.
