OPPO F11 Pro Sample Camera Shots and Mobile Imaging Review
I've been using the much talked about OPPO F11 Pro 2019 hero midrange Android smartphone for a little more than three weeks now as one of my daily drivers -- and so far, I can say that it's a well-rounded release that's definitely worth every peso you will spend getting it.
One department where this model particularly excels in is imaging. I mean, for a handset that only costs PHP 18,990, I think the OPPO F11 Pro is certainly a cameraphone you can rely on to take good shots all around the clock.
One of the hallmarks of the OPPO F11 Pro is its Dual Rear Camera module which consists of a 48 MegaPixel f/1.8 Primary Cam with Phase Detection AutoFocus and a Secondary 5 MegaPixel f/2.4 Depth Sensor that enables Portrait Mode.
On its own, the ultra-high-resolution primary shooter is capable of snapping crisp and clear photos of different subjects in various lighting conditions. But one thing I like about it is its ability to handle dynamic range or highlights and shadows really well.
Indoor and Low Light
In the photo above, notice how OPPO F11 Pro was able to capture the scene outside the glass panels with clarity despite it being brighter than the scene inside the cafe. Other cameraphone would have simply blown out the scene outside while exposing for the indoor shot.
Even when using the cameraphone at night, OPPO F11 Pro delivers good color replication that's close to what your eyes actually see -- thanks to Nightscape Mode. Notice the difference in the white and yellow lighting in the image above and how well the handset captured it in the shot.
Food Photography
If you love taking photos of your meal before binging on it, I'm sure you will appreciate having OPPO F11 Pro as your companion cameraphone.
The AI scene-detection software of this device truly make the colors of the food pop out in every shot while the high-resolution of each image makes you appreciate all the tiny details of your meal as prepared by the cook or chef.
Personally, I would suggest that you add a blurred background effect to your food photos to make them look even more enticing when you post them on Facebook or Instagram. Also, choose an angle that will make the plate more inviting.
Brilliant Portrait in Low Light
Speaking of blurred background or Bokeh, that's exactly what I love adding to the portraits of my loved ones as it makes them pop out more in the images. In photography, this is usually achieved using a wide aperture prime lens on a DSLR or mirrorless camera. But in OPPO F11 Pro as in other similar cameraphones, it is done through a secondary lens acting as depth sensor along with software algorithm.
Off hand, I am quite impressed with the edge detection of OPPO F11 Pro's rear camera system. In the shot above, the handset effectively highlighted my mom and younger brother from the background, keeping them sharp while beautifully blurring everything behind them. Although it's not flawless (look at the sharp background below the arm of my mom), I'd say this is still better than what I've gotten from other midrange devices that also has a Portrait Mode.
From "Selfie Expert", the new brand slogan of OPPO for the F-Series is "Brilliant Portrait in Low Light" -- and I have to say that it delivers on that promise.
My younger brother took my portrait, shown above, at around 8 in the evening with a very soft light shining on my face. It was just a candid shot but I was amazed at how brilliant the image turned out despite the fact that it was taken at night and in a spot with little ambient. You can even see individual strands of my eyebrows and my pimple marks; That's how clear it is.
Useful Zoom
Although OPPO F11 Pro doesn't have a dedicated telephoto camera for optical zoom, the smart sharpening effect that the software applies to images makes for fairly decent 2x-zoomed shots.
In the shot below, you can clearly see the minute details or texture on the wall-clock's hands.
In some photos, though, the sharpening effect appears too prominent or aggressive, making the image look a tad artificial.
Personally, however, I don't have an issue with it. I'd prefer a slightly over-sharpened zoomed image over a blurry one -- any day.
Elevating Front Facing Camera
One of the identifying physical characteristics of the OPPO F11 Pro is its elevating front-camera module, housing a 16 MegaPixel f/2.0 Selfie Snapper. This motorized mechanism, which allowed OPPO to put a notch-less Panoramic Display on this model, automatically rises whenever you launch the camera app.
Although this camera isn't particularly the highest resolution front-facing camera you'll find on midrange model this year, I think it's still one of the best out there for taking selfies -- if only because of the stellar AI Beauty software that powers it.
AI Beauty is smart enough to figure out and retain the user's identifying facial marks and characteristics after effective skin clearing. This software also lets you add a beautiful shallow depth of field effect to your selfies as it recognizes the subject from the background.
Imaging Review Verdict
If you currently own an entry-level smartphone and you're thinking about leveling up to a relatively affordable midrange cameraphone that can help you start on your journey as a mobile photographer, you won't go wrong with the OPPO F11 Pro.
Aside from delivering decent image quality in various lighting conditions, I'm sure you will love all the different shooting modes that you can choose from. If you're serious about learning photography, you can always pick "Expert" Mode where you can tweak White Balance, Exposure, and Focus to get the perfect shot.
On top of all that, I am also very impressed by all the subtle image enhancements that OPPO had implemented on this release especially the faster focusing speed and lag-free shutter button, which I'm sure you will also appreciate every time you use this stellar cameraphone to capture moments in your life.
