Cherry Mobile Flare X3 Has Good Specs, Cameras, and Design For Its Price
On Wednesday - June 26, 2019, my tech blogger buddies and I graced an invitation from our friends at Cherry Mobile for a get-together at their headquarters and for a chance to be the first to play with their new Android smartphone that's great for both avid gamers and budding mobile photographer.
As its name suggests, the Cherry Mobile Flare X3 is the long-awaited follow-up to the best-selling Cherry Mobile Flare X2 from 2016. As such, this model bears the hallmarks of the popular Flare X-Series of leading Pinoy handset maker, which include good imaging capabilities, large display, and stellar internal hardware.
One of the highlights of Cherry Mobile Flare X3 is its amazing 5 AI Cameras: Three at the back and two in front.
A 12 MegaPixel primary shooter that's great for low-light scenarios, a 5 MegaPixel depth sensor enabling portrait mode, and a 2 MegaPixel monochrome snapper that works with the main cam to deliver better highlights and shadows in various lighting conditions make up the Triple Rear Camera Module.
As I've previously shared, Cherry Mobile is particularly proud about the imaging capabilities of the Flare X3 as it is a product of their meticulous work at their very own Camera Lab.
In front, inside the rather wide notch, the primary 20 MegaPixel camera delivers brilliant selfies whether your are indoor or outdoor and works with the 2 MegaPixel depth sensor to add bokeh effect to your self-portraits.
I will show you my sample photos taken using all these cameras when I get to review this model for an extended period. Off hand - though - with the short time that I was able to spend with the Flare X3, I'd say that it's definitely one of the best cameraphones that the company has come up with so far.
Viewing photos, watching videos, reading blogs, and playing games will surely be a delightful experience on Cherry Mobile Flare X3's large 6.18-inch FullHD+ TrueView IPS display with 19:9 Aspect Ratio and ultra-slim bezels.
What's even better is that you can do all of those activities without experiencing annoying lags -- thanks to this handset's stellar set of internal hardware.
Cherry Mobile Flare X3 runs its Android 9.0 Pie operating system with a 12nm Octa Core MediaTek Helio P60 processor that's not only quite powerful but is also energy-efficient. With its pretty capable Mali-G72 MP3 GPU, you can definitely play popular games like PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends Bang Bang with medium to high graphics settings on this handset.
Along with 6GB of RAM for buttery-smooth multitasking experience, which is a real treat on a smartphone in this price bracket, as well 64GB of expandable storage, the Helio P60 processor gives Cherry Mobile Flare X3 an Antutu Benchmark Score 125,000 to 128,000. We ran the test on the sample unit at Cherry HQ and we got a score of 125,366, as shown above.
One of things that immediately caught my attention upon seeing Cherry Mobile Flare X3 for the first time is its classy and elegant design language.
The smartphone features real glass front and back panels as well as a real metal mid-frame, which I think is stainless-steel. The back has a beautiful gradient finish called Twilight Purple, going from Purple to Magenta.
Along with the near-bezel-less face, the shiny mid-frame and the eye-catching rear of this handset definitely make it quite a head-turner. You won't be shy to flaunt this phone even inside a posh cafe or while you are in a business meeting.
For an additional layer of privacy and security, Cherry Mobile Flare X3 has a Fingerprint Scanner mounted on the side as well as Facial Recognition. Both of these can work alongside the usual pattern or passcode unlock to prevent other people from checking the user's messages, photos, and other content without his or her permission.
What about the phone's battery life, you ask? Well, this model is powered by a sizable 4,000 mAh Li-Ion pack that should provide more than a whole day of uptime with regular use. If you hate always charging your handset during lunch time or on office breaks just to make sure it will have enough juice on your way home, you will appreciate the large capacity battery of the Cherry Mobile Flare X3.
How much will it be? So far, Cherry Mobile hasn't disclosed the exact suggested retail price of this handset. However, Mr. Nico Tan - the Product Marketing Officer of the company - did tell me that this model should cost less than their Flare S7 Plus flagship smartphone which sold for PHP 12,000 upon launch. Given the specs and features of the Flare X3 - especially the 6GB of RAM, 5 AI Cameras, and Great Design - I would say that it would still be a great value for money purchase even if it comes in at PHP 11,000. If it will be more affordable than it, then it will be an even sweeter deal.
Now, as for the release date, no word yet on that too. My guess is that it should hit store shelves across the country within July 2019, which starts just a couple of days from now.
UPDATE as of June 28, 2019, 9:00 PM: The official suggested retail price of Cherry Mobile Flare X3 is PHP 9,999. To quote the company, "Ito na ang pagbabalik ng tamang X sa buhay mo!
