Nokia 8.1 Price in the Philippines is PHP 19,990 for the 6GB RAM, 128GB ROM Version
It took HMD Global a while to bring the much anticipated Nokia 8.1 to our country -- but the good thing is that it's finally here.
Awarded as one of the best midrange smartphones for the latter part of 2018 by some tech websites, Nokia 8.1 combines elegant design, opulent build, powerful internal hardware, and reliable imaging capabilities all in one package.
At first glance, the Nokia 8.1 feature that immediately caught my fancy is its 6.18-inch FullHD+ IPS display, which - despite having a prominent notch - is large and clear enough to deliver an enjoyable visual experience when viewing photos, watching videos, playing games, or even just reading blogs.
Oh, and for those who hate the notch with a passion, HMD had included an option in the Display Settings to hide or turn it off completely. No problem!
Holding the device, I was immediately impressed with its reassuring heft and solid build. The real metal mid-frame also gives it an air of elegance and corporate sophistication, which is rare in smartphones in this price echelon.
I am also relieved that it still have a 3.5mm audio jack on top, which is still much-needed feature that's slowly disappearing on today's handsets.
Nokia 8.1 flaunts a real glass back panel with rounded sides and corners. Aside from the metal elements, this material definitely adds to the high-end look and feel of this model.
Frankly, looking at its design and construction, one can say that Nokia 8.1 looks more like flagship-level release than a mid-level handset. It's true. This device certainly appears more expensive than it actually is.
Great for mobile imaging enthusiasts, Nokia 8.1 sports a Dual Rear Camera Module that's made up of a 12 MegaPixel f/1.8 primary shooter plus a 13 MegaPixel cam that gets depth information. This combo enables bokeh effect when snapping portraits.
This system is powered by ZEISS, which essentially means that the lenses used were made by the German company and the color rendition in resulting images come with "ZEISS Taste".
For those who love to take selfies, Nokia 8.1 sports a 20 MegaPixel f/2.0 front-facing camera that features the company's own beautification software for self-portraits.
Under the hood, this smartphone runs its vanilla Android 9 Pie operating system with a powerful and energy efficient 10nm Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset that enables all the AI features of the device including the ones for imaging.
What's special about the Nokia 8.1 version that's released in the Philippines is that it comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage, making it better than the 4GB RAM plus 64GB ROM variant that was released in other markets. Without donning a far heftier price tag, the Philippine version offers a smoother multitasking experience and larger space for big files like photos and videos.
Powered by a non-removable 3,500 mAh Li-Ion Battery that can be charged through a USB Type C port, Nokia 8.1 is crafted to deliver at least a whole day of uptime with regular use. Personally, though, I would advise you to also purchase a powerbank, which will come in handy on days when you use the handset more extensively than usual.
Interested? Nokia 8.1 is now available at Nokia Concept Stores nationwide as well as in its official online store in Lazada for PHP 19,990. I believe Lazada has special promos and freebies for those who will purchase this model via their website or mobile app -- so make sure you take advantage of those offers.
Nokia 8.1 is out in a number of colors, including Silver, Steel, Blue, Copper, Iron, and the exclusive Wine version for the Philippine market.
Congratulations to the new Team HMD Philippines as well as Ardent Communications for the very successful launch of the Nokia 2.2, Nokia 3.2, and Nokia 8.1 held in our country held at Sunnies Cafe in BGC last July 16, 2019!
