Sony PlayStation 5 Will Be Released in 2020 and It Win Run PS1 to PS4 Games
It's just been confirmed! Sony PlayStation 5, the latest generation of the ultra-popular gaming console of the legendary Japanese tech giant, is definitely arriving this year!
Mr. Jim Ryan, Sony Interactive Entertainment President, made the announcement at CES 2020, which is currently being held in Las Vegas, USA.
To quote Mr. Ryan in his keynote presentation, "PlayStation is the true embodiment of a creative entertainment company with a solid foundation of technology. It's our mission to embrace the entire creative community, elevating their content on our platform for PlayStation fans. That commitment will carry us through as we embark on the launch of our next-generation console, the PlayStation 5, coming this holiday." (source)
He added, "With the foundation of new technology, the PS5 will inspire developers to create expansive worlds with new gameplay experiences that're more immersive than ever before in how they look, sound, and feel. Our promise to the 100 million-strong PlayStation community is to offer the biggest and best in content, and to deliver unique experiences to gamers with unprecedented speed. Community is the bedrock in how we grow our company. It's that promise the PlayStation brand was built on 25 years ago. And we'll continue our mission to bring that to players all around the world."
Apart from disclosing the target PS5 release date and revealing the official product logo - which is now being criticized on social media for looking a tad too simple, Mr. Ryan talked about some of the exciting new features of Sony PlayStation 5, in a nutshell.
As shown in the image above, the follow-up to the best-selling PlayStation 4 will come replete with 3D Audio Sound Quality as well as Haptic Feedback with Adaptive Triggers for a more immersive gaming experience, Ultra-High Speed SSD storage, Hardware-Based Ray Tracing for more realistic light-bounce and shadows, and an Ultra-HD Blu-Ray Disc Player.
Previously, it has been confirmed that Sony PlayStation 5 will also be backward compatible, which means that it should be able to run games made for Sony PlayStation 1 up to 4 Pro. As a long time Sony PlayStation fan and user, I think that's really sweet! (source)
How will Sony PlayStation 5 look? What's the design like?
So far, we only have these unconfirmed product design schematics and leaked actual photos, which first appeared on Twitter c/o @Alcoholikaust and Let's Go Digital. (source)
If you ask me, I think these are legit. I mean, just look at the photo above; The device appears to be working and its aesthetics match the schematics.
Off hand, I'm getting Alienware vibe from these images, which I quite like. I love that it doesn't look like any of the older PlayStation models and that it appears to have lots of air vents for good heat management. Also, I can see the Roman numeral "V" prominently in this design, which reminds us that this is a 5th generation release. If these images are the real deal, I won't mind. In fact, I'm already good with them.
Again, Sony PlayStation 5 will hit store shelves in key markets around the world come Q4 2020. As for its price, well, it's speculated that the base model should come in at around $500 USD (or PHP 25,250 with current conversion); No official word yet from Sony Interactive Entertainment regarding the actual SRP.
