Apple iPhone SE 2 with $399 Price Tag, Arriving Soon?
The idea of an Affordable Apple iPhone sounds like an oxymoron but it has actually happened in the past and according to some sources, it's most likely going to happen again this year.
In 2016, the Cupertino company released the Apple iPhone SE which donned a price tag of only PHP 22,490 for the 32GB version, making it PHP 15,000 more affordable than the cheapest variant of the Apple iPhone 7 back then.
Over the past few days, tech blogs and websites from across the world went abuzz with news about a rumored new handset from Apple that "insiders" are already calling the Apple iPhone SE 2.
Anonymous sources claim that this relatively budget-friendly release will have a price tag of only $399 USD (or PHP 20,300 before taxes and subsidies) making it far easier on the wallet compared to the cheapest version of the Apple iPhone 11, which goes for PHP 48,990 at the American company's authorized retailers in the Philippines. So how will this sub-PHP-25,000 Apple iPhone look and what will be its features?
@OnLeaks and @iGeeksBlog recently shared their design concept render of the Apple iPhone SE 2 (previously called Apple iPhone 9) based on information provided to them by their own "reliable" sources. The resulting images showed that the device looks a lot like the Apple iPhone 8 from 2018, which makes sense since Apple is expected to "recycle" unused materials from its production line to keep the price of this new iPhone in check.
As such, Apple iPhone SE is said to have a glass-metal-glass sandwich build along with thick bezels framing the 4.7-inch display. There will also be a circular home button incorporating a Touch ID fingerprint scanner along with a singular camera at the back and in front.
As for the internal hardware, it is believed that Apple iPhone SE 2 will be powered by the new Apple A13 Bionic processor that's inside Apple iPhone 11 Pro and Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max, making it more than capable of running new and powerful games and applications that can be downloaded from the Apple App Store. As yet, however, it is unclear whether this cheap 2020 iPhone will also have the stellar AI imaging prowess of its more expensive siblings from 2019.
Personally, if Apple iPhone SE 2 will have the same Smart HDR features of the Apple iPhone 11 Series on both its front and rear cameras for photos and videos, I think I'd be greatly inclined to check it out and even purchase it. Frankly, Apple is currently leading the market in terms of auto-HDR quality for videos and that's extremely valuable for me as a growing Youtuber. Let's see if Apple will indeed give that feature to budget consumers.
Apple iPhone SE 2 - or Apple iPhone 9 - is expected to be formally introduced by the Cupertino company in the latter part of March and to be released in key markets around the world within the first week of April 2020. Here's to hoping many of the rumors are true.
