Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro Philippines Price and Release Date, Complete Specs and Features
In the past five years or so, whenever there's a conversation among gadget geeks about the best flagship-level smartphones in terms of imaging performance, Chinese brand Xiaomi had rarely been mentioned in the same breath as Apple, Samsung, and Huawei.
This year, however, that's bound to finally change with the global release of the all-new Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, which many mobile imaging experts and enthusiasts are tagging as no less than the best cameraphone that the disruptive tech company has crafted to date.
Like a handful of its top rivals in the high-end echelon, this imaging powerhouse sports four cameras at the back that give users maximum flexibility when snapping photos and recording videos of various subjects in different lighting conditions.
This Quad Rear Camera Module is made up of these snappers:
1. 108 MegaPixel (25 MP Output), 1/1.33-inch Sensor with 25mm Full-Frame Equivalent Focal Length, f/1.69 Aperture, Optical Image Stabilization, Phase Detection AutoFocus
With super high resolution that enables 4-to-1 pixel-binning technology alongside a wide aperture and a large sensor, this camera is the best of the bunch for everyday point and shoot photography of any subject and for taking shots even in challenging lighting conditions.
2. 12 MegaPixel, 1/2.6-inch Sensor with 50mm Full-Frame Equivalent Focal Length, f/2.0, Short Telephoto
This camera's slightly tighter field of view is ideal for taking portraits as well as for food and product photography. Xiaomi's very own imaging software even enhances the capabilities of this shooter by intelligently adding bokeh or slight background blur to subjects.
3. 8 MegaPixel, 1/4.4-inch Sensor with 94mm Full-Frame Equivalent Focal Length, f/2.0, OIS, Long Telephoto Zoom
Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro's Hybrid 10X Zoom technology is powered by this camera. With it, you can take a tighter shot of far away objects without physically moving closer to them.
4. 20 MegaPixel, 1/2.8-inch Sensor with 16mm Full-Frame Equivalent Focal Length, f/2.2, Ultra-Wide Angle
Great for capturing scale, this snapper is the one you need for taking architectural and landscape images. This ultra-wide camera is also handy when taking photos of large groups of people.
As for video recording capabilities, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro joins the Samsung Galaxy S20 Series as the only top-of-the-line handsets that are capable of recording clips in ultra-high 8K resolution. Note, however, that Mi 10 Pro's renowned video stabilization currently only works when recording in FullHD or 4K.
Altogether, the stellar capabilities of the back cameras along with the AI prowess of this handset's processor and Xiaomi's very own imaging algorithms prompted Image Quality Measurement Authority DxOMark to give the Mi 10 Pro a score of 124, making it the top cameraphone in their rankings, ahead of Huawei Mate 30 Pro and even Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max, as of writing this article.
If there's an area that I wish Xiaomi would improve on their cameraphones moving forward, it would have to be the front-facing video recorder, which is essential for vloggers and Youtube content creators.
In the case of Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, the front shooter that's housed in the punch-hole located in the upper left corner of the display can only record FullHD clips at up to 30 frames per second, which is a far cry from the 4K 60fps recorder of Samsung Galaxy S20 Series and Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max. Also, while Mi 10 Pro's front-cam EIS is decent, the field of view is way too tight to show context when making travel vlogs.
Anyway, speaking of the screen, this model has a massive 6.67-inch FullHD+ Super AMOLED panel with curved sides and almost no bezels, making it a true eye-candy. Sure, it's not as crisp as the QuadHD+ panels on Samsung's flagship line but the 90Hz refresh rate makes it quite attractive in its own right.
Looks-wise, I'd say Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro is a hodge-podge of design identities we have seen before on other handsome smartphones. The glass-metal-glass sandwich build plus the curved sides are reminiscent of the Galaxy S line while the rear imaging module reminds me of how Huawei lines up cameras at the back of its P Series handsets.
Inside this svelte exterior, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro runs its MIUI 11 customized Android 10 operating system with a 7nm Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor that's quite simply the most powerful and intelligent mobile chipset currently, giving this model flagship-level performance when running the most resource-intensive games and applications that you can install on this platform.
In the base model, this beastly CPU is complemented by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. Sadly, this device doesn't have a microSD card slot for expanding memory but there's a 512GB variant that also comes with 12GB of RAM.
The Mi 10 Pro is powered by a large 4,500 mAh Li-Po battery that can easily deliver a whole day of uptime with regular use -- and what's amazing is that this pack also supports 50W Fast Charging via Power Delivery 3.0 and 30W Fast Wireless Charging so you can spend more time using the device than charging it. On top of that, this handset also features Reverse Wireless Charging so you can use it to charge accessories like wireless earbuds that support this.
When will this model be released in the Philippines and how much will it be?
So far, Xiaomi Philippines has yet to release an official statement on the local availability of the Mi 10 Pro. However, given that the Chinese brand has recently been aggressive in releasing high-end models in our market, I believe that there's a big chance that this device would find its way here sooner than later. If and when it becomes available here, I think the 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM Variant should don price tag of around PHP 40,000, which I based on its CNY 5,499 SRP in China.
Many of you may think that such amount is a tad too hefty for a Xiaomi smartphone but we have to keep in mind that this brand is moving up and making changes across the board to compete in the ultra-premium market as well. Xiaomi is looking up.
In the next few days, I will do my best to get word from our friends at Xiaomi Philippines about this amazing new cameraphone. I know that many of you are excited about it too so I'll definitely keep you posted and let you know when I hear something significant. Kindly stay tuned.
