Realme 6 Pro Unboxing, Initial Impressions, Actual Photos, and Features Overview
Since February 2020, many of you have been sending me questions on my social networking accounts about when exactly the Realme 6 Pro will be officially released in our country.
I've always understood your excitement. I mean, this smartphone - with its beautiful design and stellar features - is truly worth waiting for.
If you're one of those who've been saving your hard-earned money in these difficult times to get hold of this remarkable device, I bring you great news.
Realme 6 Pro will be released in the Philippines on May 27, 2020. This information is official as I got it straight from our friends at Realme Philippines.
As I've shared on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, Realme 6 Pro is crafted for demanding consumers who want a stylish and elegant device that takes great photos in various lighting conditions, has a beautiful screen, and delivers lag-free daily mobile experience.
I've personally already gotten my review unit courtesy of RealmePH and the company's PR Agency, Ardent Communications. I thank them for their continuous and consistent trust and support for TechPinas.
Allow me to share with you these unboxing photos to give you an idea of what you will get when you purchase your retail unit.
As you can see, Realme 6 Pro comes in this familiar yellow-orange box with the name of the model clearly printed on it.
This no-nonsense box design is similar to the packaging of previous Realme smartphone models including Realme 5i and Realme 6i, which were both released within 2020.
At the bottom of the box, you will find the four main features of Realme 6 Pro, namely, the 64 MegaPixel Quad Camera Module with 20X Hybrid Zoom, the Dual Selfie Camera that's integrated on the 90Hz Smooth Display, the 30W Flash Charge Feature of the Large 4,300 mAh Battery, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor.
As in previous models, when we lift the box cover, we are greeted by the note "Hey, welcome to realme Family" printed on a paper sleeve.
On the other side, we see another message: "Let's embrace a new journey".
Unlike paper sleeve on the Realme 6i, this one doesn't unravel and it also doesn't have the metal pin for ejecting the SIM card tray. I'm not sure why -- but I guess this is because Realme 6 Pro is a more premium model.
Inside the paper sleeve, you will find the Quick Guide which gives you valuable information about the model in a concise and easy to understand format.
There's also the Important Information Guide which includes the phone's warranty conditions and service terms.
The paper sleeve also contains the soft gel case. I'm glad that Realme had provided one in the pack for free so you won't have to purchase it separately.
Of course, we have the handset itself, which I'll show you in a bit.
Underneath the device, we have the special USB Type C to USB connector cable that supports the phone's 30W Flash Charge feature.
Of course, you have to use it in tandem with the provided Travel Charger with up to 6A output to enjoy the ultra-fast charging on your Realme 6 Pro.
The metal pin is clipped to a paper holder underneath the charging cable.
I believe my review package is similar to the retail pack that will be sold to Pinoy consumers starting on May 27, 2020. Again, it includes the Realme 6 Pro unit itself, the Quick Guide, the Important Information Guide, the Travel Charger, the USB Type C to USB cord, the metal pin for ejecting the SIM card tray, and finally, the free soft gel case.
Now, let's a close look at the handsome and powerful Realme 6 Pro.
In front, you will see one of the most stunning features of this device, which is its downright gorgeous 6.6-inch FullHD IPS with ultra-thin bezels and 90Hz refresh rate that's a real treat on a midrange Android smartphone.
The 90Hz refresh rate lets the user experience buttery smooth screen transitions and scrolling when navigating through the interface. It also lets you fully enjoy the benefits of high-frame-rate on supported games.
The beautiful screen in front is complemented by an eye-catching backplate design.
Protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 just like the face, this unique finish that exudes a glowing aura features seven "element" layers of covered by a reflective firm. This contemporary design was achieved through a meticulous process of printing and polishing.
What I have here is the Lightning Red version. In the Philippines, apart from this color, Realme 6 Pro is also available in Lightning Blue.
On the right side, you will see one of the premium features of the phone which is its power button that's lined with an optical fingerprint scanner, which makes unlocking the interface faster and more convenient.
On the left side, the have the SIM Card tray that you can eject using the provided pin. This tray includes two slots for nanoSIM cards and one for microSD card. Below that, we have the Volume Up and Down buttons.
On top, we see a microphone pinhole that allows the user to capture stereo surround sound when recording videos or audio files.
At the back, we have another key feature of the Realme 6 Pro which is its powerful Quad Rear Camera Set-up made up of the following shooters:
1. 64 MegaPixels, f/1.8 Aperture, 26mm, 1/1.72" Sensor Size, 0.8µm Pixel Size, Phase Detection AutoFocus PDAF, LED
This one is the most capable of the bunch when it comes to daily point-and-shoot photography even in dim lighting conditions -- thanks to its high resolution, wide aperture, and large sensor size.
2. 12 MegaPixels, f/2.5, 54mm Telephoto Zoom, 1/3.4", 1.0µm, PDAF, 2x Optical Zoom
Realme 6 Pro is one of the first midrange Android smartphones from the company to feature a secondary camera that's dedicated to telephoto zoom. This one enables the phone's 2X Optical Zoom capability and works with the main camera via Artificial Intelligence to enable Realme 6 Pro's 20X Hybrid Zoom feature for photos.
3. 8 MegaPixels, f/2.3, 13mm Ultrawide, 1/4.0", 1.12µm
This snapper is particularly useful for landscape and architectural photography -- and it's also handy for taking group photos during family gatherings or corporate outings.
4. 2 MegaPixels, f/2.4, 22mm Macro, 1/5.0", 1.75µm
Finally, this 2MP shooter is dedicated to close-up photography which is great for those who like taking photos of insects or minute details on larger objects.
Realme 6 Pro lacks a dedicated Depth Sensor but it's AI capabilities are good enough to allow the device to still have a Portrait Mode that adds beautiful background blur to further highlight the subject.
For video recording, the main camera can shoot up to 4K 30fps and FullHD 1080p at 30 and 60 frames per second. It also benefits from a combination of Optical and Electronic Video Stabilization to reduce shaking while you're recording clips while moving around. The ultra-wide camera can only shoot up to FullHD 60fps videos but gives you the benefit of capturing scale.
Personally, since I still enjoy taking selfies, one of my favorite features of the Realme 6 Pro is its Dual Front-Facing Camera Module that's integrated within the display.
Housed inside a black oblong in the upper left corner of the phone's face, this set-up is made up of these snappers:
1. 16 MegaPixels, f/2.1 Aperture, 26mm, 1/3.1", 1.0µm
This is the more powerful selfie-camera of the two and I think it's also one of the clearest front-cams that Realme has put on a midrange smartphone to date. Powered by Realme's own AI beautification software and HDR for photos, this one should give you pleasant-looking self-portraits that are instantly ready for sharing on Facebook or Instagram.
2. 8 MegaPixels, f/2.2, 17mm Ultrawide, 1/4.0", 1.12µm
Having an Ultra-Wide lens, this secondary front-cam is ideal for including friends or loved ones in your groufies and it also lets you include your surroundings in your selfies which is great when you're traveling and you're visiting lots of scenic spots.
Great for vloggers, TikTokers, and Youtube content creators, both front-facing cameras can shoot FullHD videos up to 30 frames per second and HD clips if you turn on the instant Video Beautification feature.
The secondary video camera is great for travel vlogging since you can include more of "where you are" in your vlogs. However, unlike the main front-cam, it struggles in low lighting conditions so you might want to only use it outdoors in broad daylight.
The front-camera module also supports Slo-Mo videos which is a handy tool for the more creative vloggers and TikTokers out there.
Now, let's jump to the internal hardware of Realme 6 Pro.
Under the hood, this model runs its Realme UI customized Android 10 operating system with an 8nm 2.3GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 720G processor that's one of the most energy-efficient and capable mid-level chipsets by Qualcomm for the first half of 2020.
According to our friends from RealmePH, Realme 6 Pro is the first smartphone in the world to be powered by this specific processor.
My review unit comes with 8GB of RAM for stutter-free multitasking experience and has 128GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage that's easily expandable using the dedicated microSD card slot. No need to sacrifice Dual SIM capability to get more space for large files.
This stellar set of innards makes Realme 6 Pro one of the most powerful midrange Android smartphones in the Philippines when it becomes available later this month.
Another highlight of the Realme 6 Pro is its 4,300 mAh Li-Po battery that's sizable enough to deliver more than a whole day of uptime with regular use. But what makes this pack even more remarkable is that it supports 30W VOOC 4.0 Flash Charge that lets the user charge the handset from 0% to 100% in less than an hour using the provided charger and cable! Believe it!
With this innovation, you can spend less time plugging Realme 6 Pro to an electrical outlet and more time using it to take photos and record videos while you are out and about celebrating your lifestyle with the people you care about.
All things considered, I highly recommend the Realme 6 Pro to entry-level handset owners who are now planning to level-up in their lifestyle by getting a more aspirational and more premium daily smartphone that reflects their growing taste. I just hope that Realme would give it a very competitive price tag when it becomes available through legitimate online channels and when it finally hits store shelves nationwide. I'm sure this model will be another big hit for this hotshot brand.
