The COVID-19 pandemic and the community quarantine to prevent the spread of the virus have truly changed our lives.
For young professionals and corporate employees, there are now work-from-home arrangements that come with their own set of challenges. Likewise, for our students, we now have online learning programs that they can attend or accomplish from their own homes.
If you're going to back to school real soon and you're currently looking for a very affordable yet feature-packed gadget to be your online learning companion in the new normal, here's a new smartphone from our friends at realme Philippines that you might want to check out.
Priced at only PHP 4,990, the all-new realme C11 has several features that will surely prove useful to Young Pinoys for their remote learning. What's even better is that it has a very accessible price tag which is very helpful in these trying times.
realme Philippines held the official livestream launch of realme C11 via Facebook and Youtube on Thursday, July 24, 2020.
Before I give you a rundown of this smartphone's technical specifications, allow me to first share my thoughts about realme C11's design.
As you can see in the image above, this handset comes with a rather interesting and unique look compared to previous realme handsets in the entry-level and midrange categories.
Available in Mint Green and Pepper Grey, realme C11 has an attractive backplate that features a pearl finish as well as machine-cut micro lines that give it an eye-catching sheen depending on how light hits it. The logo is also more prominent and is placed in a bar that runs though the phone's "squircle" camera module.
On the right side, we see the power button and the volume rocker that can easily be accessed using the thumb for right-handed people and with the pointer finger for those who are left-handed.
On the left side, there's the SIM card tray that can be ejected using the provided metal pin. This tray has two nanoSIM card slots and one for microSD card.
There's nothing on the top while the rear part has the 3.5mm audio jack, a couple of pinholes for the microphone, the microUSB charging port, and a row of holes for the loudspeaker.
Overall, I find the design of realme C11 rather elegant and classy for a handset that costs less than PHP 5,000. I mean, I've shown this phone to my family members and some of them thought that it costs around PHP 10,000 based on its looks alone.
Alright! Now, let me talk about the features of realme C11 that will be very useful for students.
First, there's the 6.5-inch HD+ IPS display with thin bezels. I think this large, clear, brilliant screen is great for reading articles, viewing photos and videos, and even for thumb-typing notes during virtual classes. Due to its sheer size, students won't have to squint hard when reading e-books or going through PowerPoint slides sent by their professors.
Next, realme C11 has a Dual Rear Camera module made up of a 13 MegaPixel main camera with a 2MP depth sensor. The main shooter in this set-up can also record FullHD 1080p videos at 30fps. As such, this handset can double as a point-and-shoot camera and a camcorder that students can use for making projects and other school requirements that must include photos and videos.
The 5 MegaPixel front-facing camera, which is housed in the mini notch above the display, can also record FullHD 30fps videos and can be used for virtual conference calls with classmates and teachers. The high-resolution video recording capability of this shooter can definitely improve the way students communicate through video chats for better collaboration on group projects.
Under the hood, realme C11 runs its realme UI 1.0 customized Android 10 operating system with an energy-efficient yet capable 12nm Octa-Core 2.3 GHz MediaTek Helio G35 processor that's actually good enough for gaming. This relatively powerful chipset ensures lag-free performance when running social media applications like Facebook and Messenger as well as Microsoft mobile apps including Word, Excel, or PowerPoint that are essential for online learning.
The CPU is complemented by 2GB of RAM for multitasking and 32GB of internal storage that can easily be augmented using the dedicated microSD card slot that I mentioned above. This means that students won't have to sacrifice Dual SIM capability just to get more space for their files.
If you ask me, this set of internal hardware is just right given the price of this model.
Finally, realme C11 is powered by a very large 5,000 mAh Li-Po battery that easily ensures a whole day of uptime with regular use. I believe you can even stretch it to two days if you're not really a power user. Almost double the capacity of batteries on older entry-level Android smartphones, this pack can be relied on for extended video conference calls or for viewing multiple videos as part of the online learning module.
To wrap up, I think the best thing about the realme C11 is its great value for money proposition. It looks good, has decent specs, and it delivers in areas that matter to students. If only for that, I am really inclined to recommend it.
In fact, after I review my realme C11, TechPinas and realme Philippines will donate this unit to Young Focus, an organization here in my hometown Tondo, Manila that aims to improve the mental, physical and social well-being of young Filipinos in poor communities through education, health care, and personal support. We hope that our donation can help boost Young Focus' ongoing vision of providing Quality Education for All.
