This TechPinas post aims to collate all relevant insider information,
leaks, and rumors about the Apple iPhone 12 Series. Trust that we'll
update this entry every time we hear fresh news about the Cupertino
company's much-anticipated 2020 flagship handset line.

Overview
The Apple iPhone 12 Series represents the latest iteration to the American tech giant's best-selling ultra-premium smartphone offering. Sporting more powerful technical specifications, this will supersede the well-received 2019 Apple iPhone 11 Series, which is made up of the Apple iPhone 11, Apple iPhone 11 Pro, and Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max.
Update as of October 14, 2020:
Apple Inc. has just been officially unveiled the entire Apple iPhone 12
Series - made up of the Apple iPhone 12,
Apple iPhone 12 Mini, Apple iPhone 12 Pro, and
Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max - through a virtual event streamed live on
all of the Cupertino company's social media accounts.
As it turned out, almost all of the previous rumors and leaks that we
published on TechPinas last August 2020 were proven accurate expect for the
Navy Blue color for the Pro which ended up being called "Pacific Blue"
by Apple as well as the name of the smallest variant which called "Apple
iPhone 12 Mini", among a few other things.
I have already published dedicated posts for all of the models released,
including their technical specifications and prices in the United States, so
if you're interested, kindly used our search bar to check out those entries.
For now, allow me to give a brief introduction about each of the four iPhone
12 Series handsets just to give you a good picture of what they can offer as
an upgrade to your current iPhone.
Apple iPhone 12 Mini, Apple iPhone 12, Apple iPhone 12 Pro, and Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max, respectively. |
What's common in all Apple iPhone 12 Series Models?
Looking at their design and technical specifications, there are several
things that are common about all four versions, which are:
1. They all come with the same design language which looks like a cross
between the Apple iPhone 5 from 2012 and the Apple iPhone 11 from 2019.
The face and back look like the iPhones from last year but the sides are
structured instead of curved just like the iPhone from seven years ago.
2. Despite having different amounts of RAM and internal storage, all
models are powered by the all-new Apple Bionic A14 processor, which is
arguably the most powerful mobile chipset currently, enabling top-notch
gaming and overall performance, all while powering all the models'
industry-leading photography and video recording capabilities.
3. All models share the same front-facing camera module that's made up of
a 12 MegaPixel f/2.2 selfie cam plus an SL 3D Depth and Biometrics Sensor
that enables Facial Recognition and better depth mapping for more natural
looking background blur. The front-camera also shoots 4K videos at 24, 30,
and 60 frames per second or FullHD 1080p clips at 24, 30, 60, and 120 fps.
4. Apple iPhone 12, Apple iPhone 12 Mini, Apple iPhone 12 Pro, and Apple
iPhone 12 Pro Max are all 5G-enabled and can work with the ultra-fast 5G
networks of the two top telecommunications companies in the Philippines
that are currently available in select parts of the country. Although, the
Pro models come with Millimeter Wave technology that boosts 5G download
speeds up to 4Gbps.
5. The 2020 Apple iPhone 12 series supports MagSafe accessories that
magnetically attach or snap-on to their rear panel, enabling 15W Qi
wireless charging.
6. Blue is the newest colorway implemented on the Apple iPhone 12 Series,
which I particularly love because Blue is my favorite color. Earlier
rumors called this specific hue "Navy Blue" but Apple ended up going with
"Pacific Blue" for the Pro variants and just "Blue" for the Apple iPhone
12 and Apple iPhone12 Mini.
Apple iPhone 12 Pro and Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max have three
cameras plus a LIDAR sensor at the back while Apple iPhone 12
and Apple iPhone 12 Mini only have two rear shooters. |
2020 Apple iPhone 12 Series Technical Specifications Comparison Table
As promised, I'd like to present to you all the technical specs, main features, official US prices, and Philippine price guesstimates of the four models under this year's Apple iPhone 12 line. I presented the data in a comparison table so you can clearly see the key differences between each variant. Note that the amount of RAM as well as the exact capacity of each iPhone 12 model weren't officially disclosed by Apple but were discovered by tech bloggers and insiders by looking into FCC product registration files among other documents.

Previous Rumor Round-up:
There have been rumors that Apple will call the 2020 iPhone series as "Apple iPhone 20" to match Samsung's Galaxy S20 and Note20 naming system. However, various Apple insiders have noted that Apple has never followed the lead of other companies in their product nomenclature and that will stay true for the next iPhone line. They say that the US company will stick to its timeline and call its next handset line "The Apple iPhone 12".
Apple iPhone 12 Models
Various leaks have pointed to a possible quad model plan of Apple for the iPhone 12. It is believed that the company will launch four new iPhones this year, which include Apple iPhone 12, Apple iPhone 12 Max, Apple iPhone 12 Pro, and Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max. If you remember, the iPhone 11 Series from 2019 only had three models.
Design Identity, Build, and Color Options
Based on leaked images of the iPhone 12 metal frame and back panel glass sheets, many Apple fans and product concept makers are inclined to believe that the overarching design identity of the iPhone 12 Series will be a mix of what we currently see on the iPhone 11's front and back look and the Apple iPhone 4 and 4s' thick and structured side frame. They say that the camera module will have the same "squircle" design and upper left corner placement at the rear but the identifying physical characteristic of the iPhone 12 will be its flat sides with chamfered edges as shown in this blog post's first image.
It is rumored that Apple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max's mid-frame will be made of Aluminum while Apple iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will have it in more premium Stainless Steel.
As for the colors, Gold, Silver, Space Gray, and Navy are the expected hues for the 2020 iPhone 12 Series. I believe will come with a matte finish and metallic sheen, adding to these devices' air of elegance and corporate sophistication.
Key Technical Specifications
Insiders claim that all models in the iPhone 12 Series will be powered by the all-new Apple A14 Bionic processor.
Apple iPhone 12 will have 5.4-inch Super Retina OLED display, 4GB of RAM, and a 2,227 mAh battery pack. Apple iPhone 12 Max will sport a larger 6.1-inch Super Retina OLED display, 4GB of RAM, and a 2,775 mAh battery. These two models will come with 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options.
The more expensive Apple iPhone 12 Pro will have a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with 120 Hz refresh rate, 6GB of RAM, and 2,775 mAh battery. Finally, the most premium of the four, Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max sports the largest 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR 120Hz display, 6GB of RAM, and 3,687 mAh battery pack. Both of these Pro iPhones will be available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB variants.
Rear Cameras
Apple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max are believed to share the same Dual Rear Camera module made up of a more powerful Main Camera and a secondary Ultra-Wide-Angle shooter.
It is said that Apple iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will both have a Triple Rear camera set-up plus a Lidar Depth Sensor. A powerful Main shooter, a secondary Telephoto Zoom camera, and an Ultra-Wide-Angle snapper are expected to make up this trio.
The Apple iPhone 12 Series' Apple A14 Bionic processor is believed to provide these models enhanced artificial intelligence and improved HDR capabilities both for taking stills and recording videos.
5G Mobile Connectivity
All models in the Apple iPhone 12 Series are said to support ultra-fast 5G mobile data speeds, which means that network carriers around the globe can bundle them with their new 5G postpaid plans.
However, insiders claim that only Apple iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will come with 5G mmWave technology that supports up to a whopping 2GBps. To put this innovation in context, regular 5G speeds only max out at 1GBps.
Apple iPhone 12 Prices
Earlier this year, insiders claimed that models in the iPhone 12 Series will be priced as follows:
Apple iPhone 12 Prices
64GB - $749 USD
128GB - $799 USD
256GB - $899 USD
Apple iPhone 12 Max Prices
64GB - $949 USD
128GB - $899 USD
256GB - $999 USD
Apple iPhone 12 Pro Prices
128GB - $1049 USD
256GB - $1149 USD
512GB - $1349 USD
Apple iPhone 12 Pro Prices
128GB - $1149 USD
256GB - $1249 USD
512GB - $1449 USD
However, following the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing global quarantine procedures to prevent the spread of the virus, a new iPhone 12 Price Schedule leaked and what's great is that the projected prices for both Apple iPhone 12 and 12 Max have been lowered.
Apple iPhone 12 Prices
64GB - $699 USD
128GB - $749 USD
256GB - $849 USD
Apple iPhone 12 Max Prices
64GB - $799 USD
128GB - $849 USD
256GB - $949 USD
Apple iPhone 12 Pro Prices
128GB - $1049 USD
256GB - $1149 USD
512GB - $1349 USD
Apple iPhone 12 Pro Prices
128GB - $1149 USD
256GB - $1249 USD
512GB - $1449 USD
I certainly hope that Apple's official prices for the iPhone 12 Series are closer to the second rumored price schedule so more consumers could avail of these new handsets, especially the Apple iPhone 12. Currently, $699 USD converts to around PHP 33,900, which means that - if the updated price leak is accurate - Apple iPhone 12 64GB should be priced at less than PHP 40,000 at retail.
Apple iPhone 12 Release Date and Announcement
The Apple iPhone 11 was unveiled on September 10, 2019 and was released in the Philippines on October 25, 2019.
This year, perhaps due to the effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 12 come the latter part of October 2020. Hence, I'm personally expecting this flagship handset series to be launched here in the Philippines by December or during the peak of the Yuletide Season, just in time for our Holiday Gadget Shopping. Hopefully, the COVID-19 situation will be a lot better by then.
To wrap up, let me remind you - again - that all information presented above come from mere leaks, rumors, and insider updates. All official information about the Apple iPhone 12, Apple iPhone 12 Max, Apple iPhone 12 Pro, and Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max will come directly from Apple.
