Samsung Galaxy Quantum 2, Officially Announced in South Korea! Here Are The Specs and Features!
Korean Giant Samsung has just released a new high-end Android
smartphone in its home country and experts say that it's the rebranded
Samsung Galaxy A82.
Based on its design and technical specifications, the freshly unveiled
Samsung Galaxy Quantum 2 appears to be right smack in the middle of
the upper-midrange A-Series and the ultra-premium S-Series and is priced
accordingly.
Design-wise Galaxy Quantum 2 flaunts a glass-metal-glass sandwich design
identity that's quite reminiscent of the more expensive Galaxy S21,
although the former's overall finish isn't quite as luxurious.
What's amazing about this new model, however, is that it has
a 6.7-inch QHD+ 1440 x 3200 pixels Dynamic AMOLED 2X
with 20Hz Refresh Rate in FHD mode and 60Hz QHD Refresh Rate. For me,
this is a real treat since very few flagship models within the past two
years - even those from Samsung - sport a screen with such high
resolution.
Additionally, this screen comes with an integrated under-display Fingerprint
Scanner that - together with Facial Recognition - adds a veritable layer of
privacy and security to the user.
In terms of imaging capabilities, it has three cameras at the back made up of
a 64 MegaPixel f/1.8 main shooter that's the best of the bunch in everyday
point-and-shoot photography and low-light performance, 12 MegaPixel f/2.2
Ultra-Wide camera for capturing scale, and a 5 MegaPixel f/2.4 Macro cam for
those extreme close-up shots. I'd say this is largely similar what you can get
from other upper midrange Android smartphones this year.
For snapping selfies, the phone has a 10 MegaPixel f/2.2 front-facing camera
that's powered by Samsung's own beautification software. I wish that the
company had placed a higher-resolution front shooter but it is what it is.
Now, for video content creators, the cameras at the back can shoot 4K 30fps
and FullHD 30/60/120 fps clips while the one in front can only record at
FullHD 30fps. Not bad. But I was wondering why Samsung didn't add 40 60fps
recording capability to the main camera at the back and 4K 30/60 fps for the
one in front. I mean, we could enjoy those on their older A-Series models so I
don't understand why this one didn't come with such features. I'm hoping can
add them via software upgrade in the future just to make the product more
enticing.
Under the hood, Samsung Galaxy Quantum 2 runs its One UI 3.1 customized
Android 11 operating system with a 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ with QRNG
chipset for more secure online payments in South Korea, which I plan to talk
about in a separate post. The device has 6GB RAM, 128GB ROM, and a dedicated
microSD card slot for easy memory expansion.
Samsung Galaxy Quantum 2 is powered by a 4,500 mAh Li-Po battery pack that
supports 25W Fast Charging so you can spend less time plugging the device to
an electrical port and more time using it to celebrate your passions.
I think one of the strongest selling points of this model is its 5G
support. 5G is the latest in mobile broadband connectivity standards that
lets the user enjoy speeds of up to 2GBps in some countries. In South Korea,
as of August 2020, the average 5G download speed is 650Mbps.
So how much is it? Well, the official SRP in South Korea is KRW
699,600 or roughly PHP 30,500, which makes this model a more viable option
to the Samsung Galaxy S21, especially for those who are a bit short on
budget currently. I think the price tag is not bad. However, for that amount, I think Samsung Galaxy Quantum 2 should have had more RAM and better
video recording features as noted above.
