9 Things to Consider Before Upgrading to the Apple iPhone 13
The new
iPhone 13
is here with features such as superior battery life compared to the iPhone 12,
Apple's most advanced mobile imaging technology, cinematic video recording, 5G connectivity support, and a lightning-fast Apple A15 chip, among other things.
Before
you head to the Apple Store or upgrade your phone with your mobile carrier,
there are several things you’ll want to do.
From protecting your iPhone 13 with a
trendy and sustainable phone case
to upgrading your iCloud storage, here’s our list of nine things to consider
before upgrading your current smartphone to the latest iPhone 13.
1. Get a New Phone Case
If you’re getting the latest iPhone13, you’re going to want to protect your
investment
with the latest iPhone 13 cases. After all, it’s only a matter of time before you’re walking down the street
one day and your phone falls out of your pocket or your hand. It’s likely that
one day a cup of coffee or that glass of wine will spill. Help prevent that
with a liquid screen protector. Make sure your phone is protected from scratches, drops and spills with a
phone case.
2. Consider an Android Phone
Before you upgrade to the latest iPhone 13, you may also want to look at the
latest Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra as well. The S22 comes in at a similar price point
with similar high-quality features in terms of the smartphone’s display,
camera, and amount of storage. Many people are loyal to Android because of the
diversity that Android offers when connecting to other non-Android devices,
whereas Apple tends to integrate best with only other Apple products. If you
prefer simplicity and a more user-friendly interface, stick to Apple.
3. Keep Changes in Mind if You’re Switching From an Android
If you’ve been an Android user for a long time or if your latest phone is an
Android, here is one thing to do to make it easy to switch. Just download the
Move to iOS app on Google Play. This free app will help you migrate your
calendars and contacts from your current Android device to your new iPhone 13.
Just make sure you do it over a private WiFi network.
4. Don’t Get Rid of Your Old Phone Just Yet
You’ll want to make sure you back up your phone on both the iCloud and on
another device like your laptop. Before you do the backup, if there are any
old photos like unnecessary screenshots or photos of your ex that you really
don’t need anymore, get rid of anything that’s taking up storage. There’s no
need to back up that Netflix show episode you downloaded the other week if you
already watched it.
5. Backup Your Current Device to iCloud
In addition to doing a backup to your laptop, you’ll back up your current
iPhone to the iCloud. Before actually backing up your data to the cloud, go
through any old apps. Realistically look at all of the apps on your phone. Are
there any that you don’t need? If there are apps that you haven’t used in
weeks or even months, remove them from your phone before you back up your
phone to the cloud.
6. Upgrade Your iCloud Storage to iCloud+
According to Apple, when you sign up for iCloud, you automatically get 5GB of
free storage. If you need more iCloud storage or want access to premium
features, you can upgrade to iCloud+. You can upgrade to 50GB, 200GB and 2TB
of storage. Premium features also include hiding your email, a custom email
domain and HomeKit Secure Video support.
7. Lock Your Phone
If you don’t already have a lock on your phone, now is the time to get into
the habit of locking your phone. Whether you just want a standard 4-digit pin
or you want to enable Face ID, it’s best to always make sure your phone is
locked. If you ever leave your phone alone and there’s sensitive information
on there that no one else should have access to, give yourself peace of mind
by locking your phone.
8. Familiarize Yourself with iPhone 13’s New Features
The iPhone 13 Series boasts plenty of exciting new features. Besides dramatically
better battery life, you’ll also enjoy a more damage-resistant screen and
better water resistance. Just remember that just because your phone is more
damage- and water-resistant doesn’t mean you should keep your phone without a
case. Having a phone case gives your beautiful new iPhone 13 extra protection
and extra peace of mind.
9. Set Up the Find My Service on Apple
If you currently have an iPhone that you’re looking to upgrade, you can turn
off Find My on your current phone before you set it up for your new iPhone 13.
If you don’t already have an iPhone with the Find My service setup, you’ll
want to do that as soon as you get your iPhone 13. Once you have this location
service set up, you’ll be able to track, locate and remotely lock your lost
iPhone 13. You can use this same Find My service for other Apple products,
such as your iPad.
