From having an official suggested retail price of PHP 16,999, the feature-packed vivo Y76 5G is now available for only PHP 14,999, making it an even more enticing offer for budget-conscious consumers who want to get the most bang for their buck when buying a new smartphone.

vivo Y76 5G is a midrange Android handset that the company positions as a great 5G-enabled option for aspiring content creators with its Ultra-Stable Video and Dual Screen View features. 

To quote vivo Mobile Philippines, "As Filipinos rely on social media and other online content, it is high time for vloggers and enthusiasts to discover and share more stories that matter. Unboxing and Package Contents

As you can see in these photos, vivo Y76 5G ships in this light violet box that features Mobile Legends Bang Bang characters, Gusion and Guinevere.

This design highlights vivo Mobile's official partnership with Moonton, maker of Mobile Legends Bang Bang, which is one of the most popular mobile games not just in the Philippines but in the entire Asia Pacific Region.

This outer sleeve which covers a plain white internal box, also reflects vivo Y76 5G's stellar set of internal hardware that makes this handset a great option for young mobile gamers whose budget is a bit tight for a new gaming smartphone.

The vivo Y76 5G official retail package includes the handset itself, the travel charger, the USB Type C charging cable, wired earphones, metal pin for ejecting the SIM card tray, Important Information and Warranty Card, Product Technical Specifications sheet, SAR Value and Product Standard Accessories sheet, and a free soft silicone case so the user won't have to purchase one separately.

Design and Build

The vivo Y76 5G colorway that vivo Mobile Philippines sent me is the Cosmic Aurora, which I personally prefer over the Midnight Space.

For me, this colorway's iridescent finish - that changes from bright blue to deep orange, just like an Aurora - in itself is another attractive selling point for this model. I personally think it looks very beautiful.

Although the device's shell is made predominantly of polycarbonate, the rounded sides and edges as well as the metallic midframe give it an air of opulence and sophistication.

Apart from its gorgeous iridescent finish, vivo Y76 5G's large rear camera module at the back with mirror detailing and balanced arrangement of cameras along with dual-LED flash would have to be this smartphone's identifying physical feature.

Display

vivo Y76 5G flaunts a 6.58-inch, FullHD+ 1080 x 2408 pixels IPS LCD display that supports up to 460 nits of brightness.

This screen with 84.9% screen-to-body ratio is large, clear, and brilliant enough to deliver an enjoyable viewing experience when watching videos, playing mobile games, or even just browsing social media applications.

Imaging Capabilities

This handset features a Triple Rear Camera module, consisting of the following shooters:

1. 50 MegaPixels, f/1.8, 26mm, PDAF - This is the most powerful camera on this smartphone as it offers the highest resolution, widest aperture, and largest sensor. It's also the best for point-and-shoot photography from day to night with its great low light performance.

2. 2 MegaPixels, f/2.4, Macro - Use this for snapping close-up images of very small objects as well as minute details on larger subjects.

3. 2 MegaPixels, f/2.4, Depth Sensor - This one enables vivo Y76 5G's portrait mode in which the subject is in focus while the background is slightly blurred. This visually-appealing look mimics "Bokeh Effect" which we usually only get using cameras with larger sensors paired with lenses that have wide aperture.

I wish that the handset came with an ultra-wide-angle camera for taking conveniently snapping landscape and group photos but I guess it's one of the features that vivo had left out to keep the price of this model accessible.

vivo Mobile has always been known as a maker of great selfie-phones and the vivo Y76 5G reinforces that branding. This handset comes with a  high-resolution 16 MegaPixel f/2.0 front-facing camera housed in the waterdrop notch atop the display. This cam features vivo's AI Face Beauty Algorithm that offers personalized options for refining and optimizing selfies. Additionally, there's Smart Softlight Band that lets you preview the fill light effect instantly.

Video Recording and Vlogging Features

As I've noted, vivo Mobile positions vivo Y76 5G as a great vlogging camera option for aspiring content creators, and as such the handset comes with several attractive video recording features, especially in terms of software. We will explore these more in a separate video review for this smartphone via the TechPinas Youtube Channel.

Let's talk about the hardware. At the back, vivo Y76 5G features a main FullHD 1080p video recorder that supports 24, 30, and 60 fps frame rates. In front, there's a FullHD 24 and 30fps shooter that's ideal for talking head clips. I wish that the handset could record 4K videos using the front and back cameras but given the price of the handset, it's hard to complain out it. If you want that feature, you can always go for vivo's X-Series flagship models.

In terms of software, this cameraphone offers Dual-View Video mode that allows you to simultaneously use the front and back cameras for better story-telling, AI Editor for faster, more efficient, and more convenient editing so you can upload your videos quickly, and finally, Ultra Stable Video for greatly minimizing dizzying shakes when shooting vlogs while walking or running.

5G Connectivity

One can argue that ultra-fast mobile data connectivity is a necessity for aspiring vloggers or content creators who are always on the go. The faster a vlogger can upload a video from an event or a trip, the more views it can potentially get because of Youtube algorithm.

Thankfully, as its very name suggests, vivo Y76 5G lets users enjoy the fastest in mobile data standard in the Philippines. Currently, 5G speeds in the country range from 100MBps to around 250MBps depending on the 5G zone.

Internal Specifications

vivo Y76 5G runs its Funtouch OS 12 customized Android 11 operating system with a 7nm 2.2 GHz Octa Core MediaTek MT6833 Dimensity 700 that incorporates a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. 

According to MediaTek, Dimensity 700 allows affordable modern smartphones to benefit from 5G connectivity as well as 7nm production process that's up to 28% more power-efficient compared to 8nm process. Dimensity 700 delivers high-performance - enough for enjoyable gameplay - and energy efficiency, extending battery life to keep users connected longer.

The MediaTek 700 chipset is complemented by 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage that can also be easily beefed up using the hybrid microSD card slot that shares its space with the secondary nanoSIM slot.

The 8GB of RAM is already sizeable but this handset can offer an even smoother multitasking experience through vivo's Extended RAM innovation that allows the smartphone to borrow up to 4GB from the internal storage, making it work like RAM, which comes in handy for running several resource-intensive apps and games at the same time.

Privacy and Security Features

To protect the user's privacy, vivo Y76 5G has several security features including the usual passcode or pattern unlock, Facial Recognition, and a Side-Mounted Fingerprint Scanner.

The Finger Sensor is integrated with the Power Button on the right side of the handset, which allows the users to fire up the display and unlock the interface in one action. I think this sensor placement is both intuitive and practical.

Battery Capacity and Fast Charging Feature

vivo Y76 5G is powered by a fairly sizable 4,100 mAh Li-Po Battery that's good enough to deliver up to a whole day of uptime for most users. I wish it had a 5,000 mAh battery like previous Y-Series models but I guess the power-efficient processor makes up for the slightly lower capacity.

What's particularly special about this pack is that it supports vivo's 44W Flash Charge Technology that lets the user charge the smartphone from 0% to 70% in 32 Minutes using the provided travel charger. This is particularly handy when you wake up in the morning with no smartphone charge and you only have 30 minutes to prepare for school or work. Just plug in your vivo Y76 5G to an electrical outlet and it should be good to go by the time you're ready to head out.

TechPinas Recommendation

vivo Y76 5G's gorgeous design, large display, stellar set of internal hardware, Flash Charge innovation, useful set of vlogging software features, and future-proof 5G connectivity support are enough reasons for me to highly recommend it to mobile consumers who are now ready to upgrade from their entry-level handset to a well-rounded midrange device. Even if I wish that it had an ultra-wide camera, a 5,000 mAh Li-Po battery pack, and 4K video recorder, vivo Y76 5G's new and affordable PHP 14,999 price point makes it a very compelling offer that's worthy of consideration.
