OPPO A77s Philippines Price, Specs, Unboxing, and Initial Review
Are you a student or a young professional and you're currently thinking of buying a new smartphone as a gift for yourself this Yuletide or this coming new year but you have a strict budget of less than PHP 15,000?
Do you want a new Android smartphone for school, work, and play that's affordable but at the same time stylish, powerful, and reliable?
If your answer is "yes" to both questions, here's one of the latest handset models from OPPO’s A Series that I want to recommend to you.
Check out the all-new OPPO A77s!
Priced at only PHP 13,999, OPPO A77s is available in two eye-catching colorways, Sunset Orange and Starry Black. This smartphone features a unique and elegant design, a large display, decent imaging capability, a good set of internal hardware, and a large battery with fast charging support, making it a great option for young consumers who want to get the most bang for their buck when upgrading to a new daily driver.
Unboxing and Package Contents
Before I show you more of the handset and talk about its key features, let's do a quick unboxing.
As you can see, OPPO A77s ships in this light blue with the big letter A signifying the OPPO’s A Series and the model name printed in black on the cover.
At the bottom of the box, the company had neatly listed down four main selling points of OPPO A77s, which include the 8GB Extended RAM technology, 33W SuperVOOC fast charging, Dual Stereo Speakers, and the 50MP AI Dual Camera module.
The official retail unit includes the OPPO A77s unit itself, the Quick Guide, the Safety Guide, the metal pin for ejecting the SIM Card tray, the USB Type C charging cable, the travel charger, and a free soft silicone case so the user won't have to purchase one separately.
Design and Aesthetics
Alright! Now, let's take a closer look at the design, build, and ergonomics of the OPPO A77s.
As soon as I opened the box, the first thing that I found very impressive about OPPO A77s would have to be its unique back panel design.
My review unit comes in the Sunrise Orange colorway and I'm quite smitten with this striking hue. From the get go, I've always thought that this handset looks very stylish and sophisticated for its price.
Apart from the eye-catching color, the texture of this back panel is what's particularly remarkable about it. OPPO calls this "Fiberglass-Leather" and it has this matte finish that looks and feels luxurious. You have to touch it in the flesh to fully appreciate it.
On the upper left part of the back, there's a rectangular plate which houses the Dual Rear Camera module as well as the LED flash. This design accent is another identifying physical characteristic of this model aside from the back plate finish.
The midframe of the handset is crafted from polycarbonate but it has a metallic finish that makes the device appear more premium.
On the left side, you will find the volume up and down buttons below the SIM card tray that can be ejected using the provided metal pin. The power button with an integrated fingerprint scanner is located near the middle of the right panel.
There's nothing on the top panel -- not even a microphone pinhole. It just looks clean.
Finally, the rear panel has the 3.5mm combo jack, the microphone pinhole, the USB Type C charging port, and three holes for the loudspeaker.
Here's one cool thing about the exterior shell of the OPPO A77s that I learned. The body of this smartphone is actually IP54 Certified, which means that it is protected against water splashes and contamination from limited amount dust, dirt, and particles. I think this says a lot of the good construction of this device. I mean, it's not easy for manufacturers to ensure that their smartphones are protected against water and dust damage.
Display
OPPO A77s flaunts a 6.56-inch HD+,720 x 1612 pixels IPS LCD display that's large, brilliant, and clear enough to deliver an enjoyable viewing experience when you're watching videos, playing games, reading websites, studying modules, replying to emails, or even just when updating your social media accounts.
This screen also supports up to 90Hz Refresh Rate, which allows for smoother screen transitions when you're navigating the interface. Mobile games that support high frame rates can also benefit from this display feature of the OPPO A77s.
Imaging Capabilities
A good gadget companion for budding mobile photographers, OPPO A77s sports a Dual Rear Camera module that's made up of a 50 MegaPixel f/1.8 main camera that has phase detection autofocus and a 2 MegaPixel f/2.4 Depth Sensor that enables Portrait Mode, which lets you add a beautiful background blur to your shots, especially photos of people.
The primary 50MP camera at the back is powered by AI or artificial intelligence which automatically figures out the subject and applies imaging software tweaks to enhance the quality of the shot, making them instantly ready for sharing online with friends and loved ones.
For those who love to take selfies or groufies, OPPO A77s has an 8 MegaPixel f/2.0 camera housed in the waterdrop notch above the display. This front-facing snapper is powered by OPPO's industry-leading selfie beautification software that instantly evens out the skin-tone and brings out the good-looks of the subject.
For aspiring TikTokers, Facebook Vloggers, and Youtubers, this handset has FullHD 1080p 30fps video recorders both in front and at the back. You can rely on these shooters to deliver clear and crisp clips in good lighting conditions but you can always turn on the LED torchlight at the back or use a ring-light to get better looking videos at night or in low-light settings.
Internal Hardware
OPPO A77s runs its ColorOS 12.1 customized Android 12 operating system with a powerful and energy-efficient 6nm 2.4GHz Octa-Core Qualcomm SM6225 Snapdragon 680 4G processor that incorporates an Adreno 610 GPU.
This chipset ensures smooth day-to-day mobile experience and lag-free gaming when running popular titles, including my personal favorite Mobile Legends Bang Bang.
I know that some consumers prefer to have a smartphone that's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor over competing chipsets. I think that if their budget is less than PHP 15,000 for a new device, they should certainly take a look at this model.
OPPO A77s handles multitasking with 8GB of RAM that can even be boosted by up to another 8GB, thanks to OPPO's Extended RAM innovation that borrows from the internal storage to make running many applications concurrently feel more seamless.
This handset has 128GB of internal storage that's already pretty sizable but it can also be easily augmented using the dedicated microSD card slot up to 1TB. This means that you won't have to sacrifice dual SIM capability just to get more space for your large files.
Privacy and Security
Apart from the usual Pattern and Passcode unlock methods, OPPO A77s also has Facial Recognition via the front-facing camera as well as a Side-Mounted Fingeprint Scanner that's integrated with the power button on the right panel of the device.
Together, these privacy features add a veritable layer of protection for the user against those who would check the contents of the smartphone without permission.
As I've shared previously, my favorite placement of the Fingerprint Scanner is on the side, integrated with the power button, just like what we have on this smartphone. I think this placement makes unlocking the device and turning on the display faster and more convenient with just one finger gesture.
Battery Size and Charging Speed
OPPO A77s is powered by a large 5,000 mAh Li-Po battery that easily ensures a whole day of uptime even for power users and heavy gamers, coming from a full charge. The high capacity of this battery definitely gives peace of mind for users who are always out and about, away from an electrical outlet. Heck, even if you forget to bring a powerbank, I don't think that this smartphone will let you down and give you unnecessary worries.
What's even more impressive is that this sizable pack also supports 33W SuperVOOC Fast Charging, which gives you a full 100% charge from 0% in just 69 Minutes. Talk about not waiting a whole night just to fully charge the OPPO A77s. With this innovation, you will certainly spend less time plugging this handset to an electrical outlet and more time using it to celebrate your passions.
Recommendation
To wrap up for now, I'd say that although I wish that it had a FullHD display and another ultra-wide-angle camera at the back, I believe that OPPO A77s has enough strong selling points to make it a very attractive offer at just PHP 13,999.
With its downright stylish design, powerful internal hardware, reliable set of cameras for daily point and shoot photography, good privacy features, and large battery that supports fast charging, OPPO A77s is very strong budget-friendly offer from our friends at OPPO Philippines that young and young-at-heart mobile consumers should consider checking out this New Year.
