PLDT is The Fastest Internet in the Philippines For Five Years Straight, As Awarded by Ookla

On April 26, 2023, I graced my PLDT Home family's invitation to join them in an event to celebrate PLDT being awarded by Ookla as the fastest internet provider in the Philippines for five years in a row. The celebration for this tremendous achievement was held at 'Top of The Alpha' Jazz Club in Makati City.

PLDT Inc. has made history by achieving a remarkable fifth consecutive win at the Ookla Speedtest Awards 2022, a feat never before accomplished by either PLDT or any other internet provider in the Philippines.

This achievement has been announced by Ookla, the renowned global benchmarking company, which has awarded PLDT the top spot with a speed score of 86.52 in 2022. This reconfirms PLDT's unrivaled excellence and reliable delivery of the fastest internet speeds in the country, showcasing their consistent performance and undisputed leadership in the industry.

PLDT Leads The Philippines' Digital Transformation

PLDT's consistent dominance in the Ookla Speedtest Awards for five years straight can be attributed to the company's aggressive expansion of its network and its relentless pursuit of enhancing the customer experience. PLDT's efforts have been instrumental in supporting the Philippines' digitalization by providing connectivity and digital services to more areas in the country.

As of 2022, PLDT has recorded 6.08 million fiber-powered ports covering around 17,700 barangays, making it the only telco in the Philippines that can provide the fastest fiber-optic speeds of up to 10 Gbps. This has placed the Philippines alongside first-world nations in terms of ultra-fast internet speeds.

At the press briefing mounted an hour before the celebration, PLDT and Ookla executives shared the great news with Tech Bloggers and members of local media. During the Q&A, I asked PLDT executives how they were able to achieve this tremendous feat and they all graciously shared the many improvements and enhancements that they implemented across the board. This brought PLDT Home's total fiber subscribers to 2.9 million. 5PEAT Ookla Speedtest Award Victory for PLDT

PLDT has achieved a remarkable feat by winning the Ookla Speedtest Awards for five consecutive years, making them the only telco in the Philippines to receive such an honor.

According to Ookla, only a few internet service providers worldwide have won this prestigious award for five straight years. Among Southeast Asian countries, only PLDT and Singapore's ViewQWest have achieved this milestone.

Luke Deryckx, Ookla's Chief Technology Officer, acknowledged PLDT's superior network performance over the past five years, emphasizing that the award is based on billions of data points gathered from over 18 million consumer-initiated tests taken daily.

PLDT's success in delivering the fastest internet experience in the Philippines is made possible by their continuous network expansion and their commitment to providing quality customer service. Their fiber network, which now spans 1.1 million kilometers, reaches 17.2 million homes in 68% of the country's cities and municipalities.

In addition to their consistent wins at the Ookla Speedtest Awards, PLDT has also outperformed all other major telco providers in 2022 in various areas across the Philippines, including Pasig City, Cagayan de Oro, and Baguio City.
