Converge vs Globe vs PLDT vs Streamtech Fixed Internet nPerf Web Speed Test Performance Results

Internet speed and reliability are critical factors for consumers when choosing an Internet Service Provider (ISP). The Philippines is no exception, with its major ISPs - Converge ICT, Globe Telecom, PLDT, and Streamtech - competing to offer the best internet services.

This article examines the performance results from nPerf web speed tests conducted between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024, to determine how these ISPs stack up against each other.

nPerf's Testing Parameters

For this analysis, 47,237 tests carried out with the nPerf web speed test and in the nPerf app (Android and iOS) have been taken into account in the Philippines, by users from the country's main operators (Converge, Globe Telecom, PLDT and Streamtech), between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024. The nPerf speed test is compatible with all broadband connections: ADSL, VDSL, cable, optical fiber FTTH / FTTB, satellite, Wi-Fi, WiMAX.

Here are nPerf''s Web Speed Test Performance Results for Converge ICT, Globe Telecom, PLDT, and Streamtech, presented in average speeds, from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.

The nPerf score takes into account the measured speeds, the latency, and the streaming and browsing tests. The value of the points for the rates and the latency is calculated on a logarithmic scale, to better represent the perception of the user. nPerf offers accurate data independent of Internet providers.

The nPerf study, based on thousands of tests conducted by end-users, is one of the largest crowdsourced studies in the Philippines. It accurately reflects the real experiences of the general public with various Internet networks. This study only includes tests conducted on Wi-Fi networks using the nPerf mobile app on Android and iOS.

Converge ICT: Best in Download Speed and User Experience

nPerf's Web Speed Test results showed that Converge ICT stands out as the market leader in the Philippines, excelling in download speed and overall user experience (nPoints). With an impressive download speed of 101.5 Mb/s, Converge ICT ensures a fast and reliable Internet connection, making it the top choice for consumers seeking high-speed Internet and superior service quality.

Download Speed: Indicates the amount of data a connection can receive in one second from the nPerf server. The higher the measured value, the better the speed of the connection. Download speeds greater than 25 Mb/s are classified as excellent, enabling activities such as 4K video streaming.

FYI: The average download speed in the Philippines has been 92 Mb/s between July 2023 and June 2024.

Average Internet Download Speeds Philippines, Turkiye, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Indonesia
The average download speed in the Philippines was faster than in Türkiye (84 Mb/s), Taiwan (83 Mb/s), India (71 Mb/s), Bangladesh (48 Mb/s), or Indonesia (46 Mb/s)

Streaming Performance: The subscribers of Converge ICT enjoyed the best mobile Internet streaming performance in 2024 (84%). The goal of the streaming test is to measure the quality of video viewing on the most popular streaming platform around the world: YouTube. A score between 75% and 100% indicates smooth video streaming.

The streaming test evaluates YouTube streaming quality by conducting assessments at three different resolutions: 360p (Standard Definition), 720p (High Definition), and 1080p (Full High Definition). The overall rating is derived from an average of these three tests, ensuring a comprehensive measure of streaming performance across varying levels of video quality.

Browsing test: Converge ICT emerged as the leading provider for web browsing with an efficiency rate of 58%, equivalent to an average page load time of 4 seconds. Scores between 50% and 75% are adequate for general browsing.

Globe Telecom: Best in Latency

In the test, Globe Telecom is distinguished by its outstanding latency performance, scoring 72 ms. This low latency propels Globe Telecom to the second spot in the rankings, making it ideal for activities requiring real-time responsiveness such as gaming and video conferencing.

Latency: Describes how responsive the connection is. Lower latency translates to more immediate interaction with content. Latency is measured in milliseconds (ms). 31-100 ms supports optimal Internet performance with minimal delay.

PLDT: Leader in Upload Speed

Based on the study, PLDT excells in upload speed with a score of 84 Mb/s. In addition to its top-notch upload performance, PLDT also shows good download speeds, making it a solid option for users who require efficient and fast upload capabilities along with reliable overall Internet connectivity.

Upload speed: Refers to how fast you can send information from your device to the nPerf server. Upload speeds greater than 10 Mb/s are classified as excellent, enabling subscribers to easily upload HD videos to the Internet.

Streamtech: Strong in Latency and Streaming

Streamtech demonstrates solid performance in latency, closely trailing behind Globe Telecom. Despite its fourth place, Streamtech also holds its ground in streaming (74%), providing a good user experience for media consumption. This positions Streamtech as a viable option for consumers who prioritize low latency and streaming quality.

nPerf's Findings

Converge ICT leads the Philippines' ISP market with its exceptional download speeds and user experience. Globe Telecom excels in latency, securing its second place with impressive performance in real-time online activities. PLDT offers superior upload speeds and reliable overall connectivity, while Streamtech shows strong latency and streaming capabilities. The ongoing competition among these ISPs drives continuous improvements in service quality, ultimately benefiting consumers with better and more reliable Internet experiences.
